Is a Business Mentor Worth It? If you're wondering if mentorship is right for you- here's everything you need to know:

Running a small business can feel overwhelming, especially if you’re building it on your own while juggling family life, creative work, clients and everything else. Many female entrepreneurs in Scotland reach a point where they feel stuck or are unsure how to grow sustainably. Others are struggling to structure their business around the needs of their family, their partner or themselves.

If that sounds familiar, you’re far from alone — and this is exactly where a small business mentor can make all the difference (especially a small business mentor who specialises in working with female entrepreneurs!)

Why Female Solopreneurs in Scotland Benefit From a Mentor

When you’re a solopreneur, you wear every hat: strategist, marketer, administrator, creator and CEO. It’s no surprise that many women in business feel unfocused, isolated or unsure which steps will actually lead to sustainable (and profitable) growth.

Mentorship can help in so many ways, offering guidance, support, accountability and

As a small business mentor in Scotland and working with female entrepreneurs all across the United Kingdom, I help ambitious, plate-juggling women to redesign their businesses to better work for them. My approach is multi-faceted, holistic and rebellious to corporate rules and "in the box" thinking, offering:

  • clarity around goals and direction

  • accountability to make things happen

  • step-by-step plans for steady change and growth

  • an experienced sounding board who understands the realities of self-employment

  • impartial advice from someone who has successfully grown two businesses themselves (on a new continent I might add!) all while raising two small humans

This isn't a course. It’s not a one-size-fits-all coaching programme. It’s personalised, ongoing support based entirely on you, your business and your life.

What My Small-Business Mentoring Looks Like

As a business mentor for women in Scotland and across the UK, I work with solopreneurs, creatives and small-business owners who want to grow with confidence- not burnout. Together, we work on:

  • Building a clear, realistic business strategy

  • Setting achievable goals and timelines

  • Improving focus and productivity

  • Breaking down overwhelm

  • Strengthening your brand and messaging

  • Planning for sustainable growth

  • Navigating challenges that come with business and life

What does that actually look like?

All of my mentorship packages are completely customisable, as each business- and each business owner- has very different needs. More on my core mentorship packages here, or in a nutshell, these are my two most popular options:

Mastermind Session

Perfect for tackling a specific challenge or getting you unstuck from current routines that aren't working:

  • 90 minute stand alone mentoring session

  • 30 minute accountability follow up session one month later (with a wee check-in in between!)

  • £295

LEVEL UP PROGRAM

For those who want to make some bigger changes in their business: if you feel you are working all the hours and not getting anywhere, want to make a big shift in your offering or clientele, or you need to restructure things completely to better fit your life? This fully customisable option is for you:

  • long term support to make real, sustainable progress, offered over four month, six month or year long timeframes (and you can keep extending as needed too)

  • option for bi-weekly or monthly sessions, based on your needs, schedule and what best suit you as an individual

  • option for weekly or bi-weekly check ins between sessions (voice notes, text or email- whatever suits you best!)

  • fully customisable and payable monthly: from £275/month

Whether you're just starting out, in a 'rebrand' or place of change or ready to grow and scale up, mentoring gives you the support and structure you need to move forward.

Flexible Support Designed for Real Life

Most of my clients are juggling work, kids, pets, and life: which is why my mentoring is intentionally flexible.

I offer in person or online sessions you can join from anywhere in the UK (or further abroad, if your schedule is flexible too!) and both evening and weekend availability- so if you don't have access to childcare during the day or are still working another job? We can fit these sessions in around you. If we are meeting in person, your little ones are welcome to join us, and the same goes for pets too. As mum to two and carer to a complex needs child, I know all too well how hard it can be to get time away and I promise I have the temperament (and patience!) to keep your session on track.

One of the biggest challenges many of us have as solopreneurs is accountability: and I offer regular check ins for all of my mentoring clients as a standard feature of working with me. These check ins aren't pushy or accusatory (you won't be in trouble if you didn't get all of your homework done, no judgement!) but rather encouraging and supportive, meant to keep you on track and offer you a support line if any challenges come up between our scheduled sessions.

This isn’t corporate marketing speak or generic, outdated advice. It’s supportive, practical and human: tailored guidance based on what’s happening in your business, and your life, at this moment in time.

Who My Mentoring Is Perfect For

You’ll get the most value from a mentor if you’re:

  • A female solopreneur or freelancer feeling stuck

  • A mum growing a business around family life

  • A creative business owner wanting structure that works for them

  • A new business owner needing guidance

  • A small-business owner in Scotland looking for clarity and support

  • Someone who wants accountability and a strategic plan

If you want someone to tell you what you should do without listening, or offer a rigid plan with general business advice? This isn’t for you. My approach is collaborative, empathetic and empowering and we are very much in this together, creating a customised mentorship plan that fits your goals, your schedule and your life.

Why Work With Me as Your Business Mentor?

I bring nearly 15 years of experience working with small creative businesses and third-sector organisations, plus a degree in Rhetoric & Communications and a background in Branding and Messaging too. I’ve grown two successful small businesses- while navigating a move across continents, two pregnancies and self employed maternity leaves, a global pandemic and a cost of living crisis- and I know firsthand:

  • how to create sustainable growth

  • how to balance business with family life

  • how to turn a side hustle into a full-time income

  • how to build a brand that resonates

  • how to reach (and surpass) financial goals

  • how to think outside the box and rewrite the rules

If you’re looking for a female mentor who understands the realities of running a small business in Scotland- while also juggling a busy family life- you’ll feel supported, understood and guided every step of the way. And if you want to learn a little bit more about me? All the juicy details can be found here.

Is Business Mentoring Worth It for Small-Business Owners?

I'll be honest here, that depends. If you are in a place where you're feeling stuck: unsure of where to go to next, what to prioritise, how to set your next goals, or overwhelmed by ideas you have no time to put into action?

And/or if you feel like you're putting in ALL The hours and getting nowhere: have no time for yourself, feel constant guilt about having work on your mind all the time, and know that your current business structure and schedule aren't working for you?

The timing is certainly right for you to find a small business mentor. BUT- there is another side to being ready, and that's having a willingness to put in the work.

It isn't easy to make changes, especially big ones. It's also no walk in the park to really dive deep into what isn't working for you and why that may be. You have to be open to putting the work in behind the scenes, and the good news is: that's much easier to do when you have someone by your side, guiding you in the right direction and making sure you're staying on your new path.

Is it worth investing in a business mentor? I'd turn that question around and ask if it's worth investing any more time and energy into a business that isn't working for you.

As Albert Einstein famously said, The definition of insanity is "doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."

Mentoring provides clarity, structure and accountability- three things that most solopreneurs simply don’t have on their own. It gives you experienced, objective, outside perspective on your own business from someone who isn't emotionally attached to it. It enables you to see things from a different perspective, to bounce your thoughts and ideas and challenges off another person who gets it. It gifts you your own personal cheerleader to celebrate the wins, help you though the obstacles and keep motivating you to push forwards.

Those things are invaluable. And if you don't believe me? Ask my clients, who have gone on to do some truly incredible things after a little boost of support.
